وَالَّذِينَ اجْتَنَبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ أَنْ يَعْبُدُوهَا وَأَنَابُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ لَهُمُ الْبُشْرَىٰ ۚ فَبَشِّرْ عِبَادِ
But those who have avoided Taghut, lest they worship it, and turned back to Allah - for them are good tidings. So give good tidings to My servants

(And those who put away false gods lest they should worship them…) [39:17]. Ibn Zayd said: “This versewas revealed about three people who confessed the oneness of Allah in the pre-Islamic period: Zayd ibn‘Amr, Abu Dharr al-Ghifari and Salman al-Farisi”. (… for them there are glad tidings. Therefor give goodtidings (O Muhammad) to My bondmen who hear advice and follow the best thereof…) [39:17-18]. ‘Ata’reported that Ibn ‘Abbas said: “When Abu Bakr al-Siddiq believed in the Prophet, Allah bless him and givehim peace, and followed him, ‘Uthman, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Awf, Talhah, al-Zubayr, Sa‘id ibn Zayd, Sa‘d ibnAbi Waqqas went to him and asked him [whether he believed in the Prophet]. He informed them about hisfaith and they believed [with him on the spot]. Allah revealed about them (Therefor give good tidings (OMuhammad) to My bondmen who hear advice) i.e. from Abu Bakr (and follow the best thereof)”.
وَالَّذِينَ اجْتَنَبُواْ الطَّـغُوتَ أَن يَعْبُدُوهَا وَأَنَابُواْ إِلَى اللَّهِ لَهُمُ الْبُشْرَى فَبَشِّرْ عِبَادِ - الَّذِينَ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقَوْلَ فَيَـتَّبِعُونَ أَحْسَنَهُ أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ هَدَاهُمُ اللَّهُ وَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمْ أُوْلُو الاٌّلْبَـبِ
(17. Those who avoid At-Taghut by not worshipping them and turn to Allah, for them are glad tidings; so announce the good news to My servants.)
(18. Those who listen to the Word and follow the best thereof, those are (the ones) whom Allah has guided and those are men of understanding.)
وَالَّذِينَ اجْتَنَبُواْ الطَّـغُوتَ أَن يَعْبُدُوهَا
(Those who avoid At-Taghut by not worshipping them) was revealed concerning Zayd bin `Amr bin Nufayl and Abu Dharr and Salman Al-Farisi, may Allah be pleased with them. The correct view is that it includes them and all others who avoided worshipping idols and turned to the worship of Ar-Rahman. These are the people for whom there is good news in this world and in the Hereafter. Then Allah says:
فَبَشِّرْ عِبَادِالَّذِينَ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقَوْلَ فَيَـتَّبِعُونَ أَحْسَنَهُ
(so announce the good news to My servants -- those who listen to the Word and follow the best thereof,) meaning, those who understand it and act in accordance with it. This is like the Words of Allah, may He be exalted, to Musa, peace be upon him, when He gave him the Tawrah:
فَخُذْهَا بِقُوَّةٍ وَأْمُرْ قَوْمَكَ يَأْخُذُواْ بِأَحْسَنِهَا
(Hold unto these with firmness, and enjoin your people to take the better therein) (7:145).
أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ هَدَاهُمُ اللَّهُ
(those are whom Allah has guided) means, those who are described in this manner are the ones whom Allah has guided in this world and the Hereafter.
وَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمْ أُوْلُو الاٌّلْبَـبِ
(and those are men of understanding.) means, they possess sound reasoning and an upright nature.

Setelah Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala menyebutkan keadaan orang-orang yang berdosa, maka Dia menyebutkan keadaan orang-orang yang kembali kepada Allah dan balasan bagi mereka.
Thaghut ialah setan dan apa saja yang disembah selain Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala.
Dengan beribadah kepada-Nya dan berbuat ikhlas di dalamnya. Dengan demikian, mereka beralih dari syirk menuju tauhid, dari maksiat menuju taat, dan dari bidâah menuju Sunnah.
Yang tidak dapat diukur dan diketahui sifatnya karena demikian besar. Berita gembira ini mencakup berita gembira di dunia seperti pujian yang baik, mimpi yang baik, perhatian dari Allah yang mereka lihat di sela-sela hidup mereka, bahwa Dia bermaksud memuliakan mereka di dunia dan akhirat. Mereka juga memperleh berita gembira di akhirat, yaitu ketika mati, ketika di kubur, ketika pada hari Kiamat dan diakhiri dengan berita gembira oleh Tuhan Yang Maha Pemurah, yaitu selalu mendapatkan keridhaan-Nya, kebaikan-Nya, ihsan-Nya dan memperoleh keamanan dari-Nya di surga. Ya Allah, berikanlah yang demikian itu kepada kami, sesungguhnya kami membutuhkannya.
Setelah Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala memberitahukan bahwa bagi mereka berita gembira, maka Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala memerintahkan Nabi-Nya untuk menyampaikan berita gembira itu dan menyebutkan sifat orang yang mendapat berita gembira itu. Dalam ayat ini terdapat anjuran memberikan berita gembira kepada orang-orang mukmin.
