وَقَدْ كَفَرُوا بِهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۖ وَيَقْذِفُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ مِنْ مَكَانٍ بَعِيدٍ
53. And they had already disbelieved in it before and would assault the unseen from a place far away.
وَأَقْسَمُوا بِاللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَانِهِمْ لَئِنْ جَاءَهُمْ نَذِيرٌ لَيَكُونُنَّ أَهْدَىٰ مِنْ إِحْدَى الْأُمَمِ ۖ فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ نَذِيرٌ مَا زَادَهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا
42. And they swore by Allah their strongest oaths that if a warner came to them, they would be more guided than [any] one of the [previous] nations. But when a warner came to them, it did not increase them except in aversion.
إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهِمُ اثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا إِلَيْكُمْ مُرْسَلُونَ
14. When We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened them with a third, and they said, "Indeed, we are messengers to you."
قَالُوا طَائِرُكُمْ مَعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِنْ ذُكِّرْتُمْ ۚ بَلْ أَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُسْرِفُونَ
19. They said, "Your omen is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded? Rather, you are a transgressing people."
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّقُوا مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
45. But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy... "
بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ
12. But you wonder, while they mock,
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ
13. And when they are reminded, they remember not.
وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ
14. And when they see a sign, they ridicule
أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ
17. And our forefathers [as well]?"
وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَجْنُونٍ
36. And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"
